Geometrical-confinement effects on excitons in quantum disks.

چکیده
Excitons confined to flat semiconductor quantum dots with elliptical cross section are considered as we study geometrical effects on exciton binding energy, electron-hole separation, and the resulting linear optical properties. We use numerical matrix diagonalization techniques with appropriately large and optimized basis sets in an effective-mass Hamiltonian approach. The linear optical susceptibilities of GaAs and InAs dots for several different size ratios are discussed and compared to experimental photoluminescence spectra obtained on GaAs/AlxGa1−xAs and InAs/GaAs quantum dots. For quantum dots with several nm in size, there is a strong blue shift of the luminescence due to geometrical confinement effects. Also, transition peaks are split and shifted towards higher energy, in comparison with dots with circular cross sections. Typeset using REVTEX 1

Effects of on-center impurity on energy levels of low-lying states in concentric double quantum rings
In this paper, the electronic eigenstates and energy spectra of single and two-interacting electrons confined in a concentric double quantum rings with a perpendicular magnetic field in the presence of on-center donor and acceptor impurities are calculated using the exact diagonalization method. For a single electron case, the binding energy of on-center donor and acceptor impurities ar...

In this paper the effects of transmittance, dispersion angle and diffusion length on the quantum efficiency of solar cells (QESC) have been simulated and investigated. Optical path technic is used for simulation. The results show that base thickness, diffusion length, dispersion angle, number of optical confinement path and transmission angles have an extremely effects on the QESC. Simulation r...
متن کاملSemiconducting polymer quantum wires
Semiconducting polymer heterostructures with strong two-dimensional quantum confinement of excitons are prepared by self-assembly of two conjugated polymers in binary blends. Exciton confinement effects in the semiconducting polymer quantum wires were observed at room temperature by photoluminescence excitation and photoluminescence spectroscopies and by electric field-induced photoluminescence...
متن کاملExcitons in Si nanocrystals: Confinement and migration effects
A detailed analysis of the strong room-temperature photoluminescence ~PL! signal of size controlled nc-Si is reported. The size control of nc-Si is realized by evaporation of SiO/SiO2 superlattices and subsequent thermally induced phase separation. By this method the synthesis of completely SiO2 passivated Si nanocrystals with a controlled size is demonstrated. A strong blueshift of the photolu...
